At MyHomeEQ, we're convinced that the value of home efficiency improvements shouldn't be limited to the savings on your utility bills, though the long-term payback there is frequently better than investing in the stock market, especially in the last few years. Energy efficiency retrofits are home improvements, just like upgrading your kitchen counters or getting stainless steel appliances, and should improve the overall value and equity of your home.
Right now the real estate market doesn't always see it that way, but they're slowly moving that direction and we're here to push it. By working with real estate agents and the organizations behind the MLS, we're helping to get energy efficiency improvements, and the home's overall EQ and DOE Home Energy Score, into the information available to home buyers when looking for a new home. In general, home buyers value efficient homes, so by letting them know that your home is more efficient than others that they're considering, they'll be willing to pay a little bit more for it and suddenly the market values retrofits!
