Last month, the U.S. Department of Energy revealed the winners of the “Apps for Energy” competition. More than 50 developers designed Web and mobile apps to make use of electricity data available through the Green Button initiative. This initiative, along with the accompanying app contest, demonstrates a strong demand for energy transparency. People now want to learn more about their usage, so that they can achieve their homes’ potential for energy efficiency and save money. The White House’s Green Button effort tries to provide homeowners with data and foster new technologies to lower energy usage.
MyHomeEQ supports the Green Button initiative and other efforts to provide homeowners more information about their utility use. Homeowners shouldn’t feel “left in the dark” in terms of what goes into their utility bills. With or without the Green Button, MyHomeEQ helps educate homeowners on their energy use so they can save energy, cut utility bills and make their home more comfortable.
